Second Half Heroics

Bryn Lewis reported from the Boys Basketball game at Mariemont on Friday, January 16th.

The first quarter ended 8-9 Wyoming.
The 2nd quarter ended tied at 21.
Notes: Andrew Marty got his first major minutes this season. Defense was what we've come to expect - Very Good. Lonnie Grayson, Nate Lowe and Mason Rogers all had steals. Walker Lewis, Hudson Rogers, Garyn Prater and Jake Edmonds all had nice offensive or defensive rebounds.  The offense was out of sync though except for Lonnie who did the bulk of the scoring.

Then, something happened during halftime. Bowls of Wheaties in the locker room or maybe someone broke out a stash of Snickers Bars?

Or maybe the coach just got them back on track because this game was decided in the 3rd quarter. It started with a Walker inside/out assist to Mason for a 3. Seconds later, Hudson had a nice block. Just a minute into the half, Lonnie had a smack pass to Jake inside for two and a score of 21-26 Wyo. The Warriors didn't/couldn't respond. At two and a half minutes in, Garyn had an easy 3 (21-30Wyo) and Mariemont called their 2nd timeout. Jake and Lonnie were both fouled and brought the score to 25-34 Wyo. Just under four minutes left and Mason broke through a double team for an easy layup. Lonnie had a steal and dished to Mason for two and a score of 26-38. Jake had a sweet inside pass to Mason who was fouled and brought the score to 26-40. Mariemont brought the ball in and Mason stole it almost immediately for another two, 26-42 Wyo. Walker chased down an offensive rebound and seconds later Hudson had a nice inside/out assist to Mason for 3.  Jake to Lonnie on the right side for a 3 a minute later and then, with 30 seconds to go, Lonnie had another three from the opposite side.  3rd quarter ended 31-51 Wyo.

4th quarter, Wyoming let off the gas but kept up the defense and scoring. With a minute to go, Andrew, Jared Winter, Jack Gildea and Devon Davis came in and kept up the defense to the loud cheers of the Cowboy Crazies. Final: 41-63 Wyoming.

One more thing to note:  The Visiting Students section was filled to the brim with Cowboy Crazies and their support may be the 6th man this year.  Outstanding for a game across town.
