Literal Last-Second Scoring

Bryn Lewis reported from the Boys Basketball game against the Badin Rams on Friday, January 2nd.

After two weeks off, Wyoming tipped off against the Badin Rams tonight and saw their first GCL competition of the season.  GCL teams are always a good test for the Cowboys.

With over three minutes into the game, Lonnie Grayson started off the scoring for both teams with a jumper for 2. On the next possession, Mason Rogers drove inside and was fouled and Wyoming's lead was 3-0.  With just over three minutes left in the quarter, Garyn Prater found some space inside and had a shorter jumper for 2 that brought the score to 5-2.  Jake Edmonds had a key defensive rebound with less than 3 minutes to go that led to a 3 from Garyn and a score of 8-2.  Around then, Walker Lewis had to come out of the game with a dislocated finger joint. Toward the end of the quarter, Lonnie had a 3 from the top and a final quarter score of 11-4 Wyoming.

The 2nd quarter didn't start well for the Cowboys' offense and Badin tied it up 11-11 around two minutes in. At the 4:32 mark, Jake took a charge that led to a Garyn put-back 2 on the possession. With just over three minutes left, Mason chased down a defensive rebound in the corner which led to a fast break by Jake for 2 and a plus 1. Score 16-11. At the two minute mark, Garyn brought out the defense at the top of the key and passed to Lonnie for a 3. At the half, the score was 19-16.

The second half began with Walker grabbing a defensive rebound and passing to Lonnie for a fast break 2 and a score of 21-16. The Rams responded and, with less than three minutes in, tied it up 21-21. Jake took it inside and was fouled, 23-21 Wyoming.  Just over three minutes left in the quarter and Badin took their first lead of the game, 24-23 Badin. With less than a minute to go, Nate Lowe had a key shot block to deny Badin. Walker had left the game again with a second injury.

The 4th quarter was more of the same on defense for both teams. Badin tied it up again then Wyoming took the lead back then Badin took the lead again with a minute to go; 31-30 Badin.  That's when it got to be the most exciting minute of the season so far!  With 35 second to go, Badin was inbounding at half court and Garyn leaped to grab the possession and Lonnie scored 2.  Wyoming up by one. With 11 seconds to go, the Rams responded and went up by one. Timeout Wyoming. Mason inbounded to Lonnie who brought it up the floor and WITH ONE SECOND LEFT LONNIE MADE A THREE AND THE COWBOYS WON.  Final: 35-33 Wyoming.
