Cowboys Can't Crack the Cavaliers

Bryn Lewis reported from the Boys Basketball game against Purcell Marian on Saturday, January 3rd.

Wyoming Cowboys faced off against their first ranked team tonight, the Purcell Marian Cavaliers.  Wyoming started the scoring around one minute in when Walker Lewis drove into the lane for two. Jake Edmonds, on the next possession did the same and the score was 4-0. At the 4:40 mark, Jake drove into the lane, dished to Walker and the score was 8-2. Around four minutes in, the Cavaliers adjusted but Mason Rogers got a two to stop the bleeding and a score of 10-7 Wyoming. 1st qtr. notes: Lonnie Grayson tested the lane a few times and got fouled. Nate Lowe had a fast break two and an plus one. Lonnie ended the quarter with a huge block to keep the score tied at 17.

The 2nd quarter went back and forth.  Nate had a nice block and Jake took a charge early on. Around 5 minutes in, Lonnie drove into traffic for two. 21-20. At the 3:40 mark, Mason goes hard into the paint for an And 1 to regain the lead. 24-22.  With three minutes left, Hudson Rogers said "Your shot is denied!" with air and a block.Over two minutes to go and the score tied at 24, Nate took a charge and, in the next possession, Lonnie passed to Jake for a three and the lead. At the half the score was 29-26.

The third quarter started with a second or third effort putback by Mason. A minute later, Walker had another putback. 33-28. At two minutes in, the score was tied at 33. At three minutes in, Mason had a nice steal. This was a tight game but Jake to a Lonnie 3 then Lonnie broke some ankles at the top of the key for another 3 and the score was 39-37. With around 2:30 minutes left, the Cowboys had two big men with four fouls gained in ways I cannot describe generously. By the end of the quarter, Lonnie had 11 points and the score was 48-39.

The 4th quarter had little to note. The game went into overtime with the score tied at 51.

Overtime notes: A minute in, Nate tied it up at 53. Nate refused a Cavalier possession and got a jump ball resulting in a Wyoming possession. Final score 56-63.
