A Close Second

From Coach Pitman

The Matmen were runner-ups at the Wyoming Duals this past Saturday. Asa Palmer is closing in on 90 wins and should reach the mark this weekend at Miami Trace Invitational. Noah Pitman continues his winning ways and should be able to record his 50th win at Miami Trace Invitational this weekend as well.

Both marks are impressive, but something happened this weekend that was even more impressive. Two league wrestlers (Kremzar of the Cowboys and Heglin of Deer Park) wrestled a young wrestler locally (Ryan) that is a special needs student/athlete. Ryan has wrestled a couple years and had never tasted victory.  He struggles to even do one push up but goes to practice daily and gives more effort than many star athletes at any school. You can read between the lines, but Ryan earned 2 wins this weekend. Ryan got to get his hand raised for the first time ever. The league should be proud of Kremzar and Heglin because what they did is to be commended; the idea was brought up by them individually and not by anyone else.
