Swim Team Supreme

From Heather Lethander

Hi Cowboys –
Here are the results from the State Meet. Congratulations! Thank you also to Mike and Meilan Rutter who very competently handled the food for the hungry swimmers!
Please mark your calendars for March 19th for the Swim & Dive Team/Winter Sports Awards Night. We will distribute letters, awards and recognize our seniors.
State Champion!
The Wyoming Men's Swim Team exceeded expectations by finishing 8th in the State at the OHSAA State Swim Championships held in Canton, Ohio, February 21-22. The majority of our state team had graduated last year, and Coach Dave Elliott just hoped to have three relays qualify to State.

Congratulations to our newest State Champion, Jonathan Rutter, who won the Breaststroke event at the Ohio State Swimming Championships last week. After the first 50 it was a tight race between three swimmers, but Jonathan pulled away easily in the second fifty to claim the title.

Wyoming qualified 7 men to the State Championships in both individual and relay events. Preliminary races were held on Thursday with the top 16 in each event moving on to compete for medals and points on Friday.

First time qualifier Stephen Barrett placed 14th in the 500 free. Max Chou placed 15th in his first individual race in the 100 Fly. Jonathan Rutter also placed 3rd in the 200 IM. Also competing in preliminaries were Brennan Burt and Matthew Lethander in the 100 Breast, and Stephen Barrett in the 200 Free.

All three relays qualified to swim at finals. The 200 Medley Relay (Jonathan Rutter, Christopher Rutter, Max Chou, Brennan Burt) won the consolation heat. The 200 Free Relay which consisted of C. Rutter, Chou, Lethander and Burt) placed 16th in the state. The 400 Free Relay Team (Burt, Chou, Lethander, J. Rutter) won a medal for 8th place.

Wyoming only loses one State team member to graduation in 2013 - Captain, Brennan Burt. We are excited about the team that will compete next year!
