In the Face of Adversity

From Coach King

On Jan. 30th, the 8th Grade Girls Basketball Team beat Taylor at Three Rivers Middle School 33-26. Kayla Hampton led the scoring with 15 points, followed by Lauren Metz with 10, Emily Dudek with 5, Isabelle Judge with 2 and Marley Manigault with 1. This evens the record at 5-5.

That all sounds good, but it didn't come easily. The day started off with Crissy Gallick not being able to attend school and play due to illness. Then during warm ups, Tatyana Palmer sprained her ankle and could not play in the game. Before the game, Kelsey Lackey complained of stomach problems and wasn't sure how much she could play. Then in the first minute of the game, Isabelle Judge went down with a sprained ankle and had to be replaced. In the first half, Lauren Metz and Emily Dudek each had to replace contacts when they got hit in face. Finally, Kayla Hampton got knocked to the floor almost every time she drove to the basket.

Fortunately, Isabelle Judge and Kelsey Lackey provided gutsy performances alternating at the 5 position, and Marley Manigault and Jamaiica Hurston provided solid performances alternating at the 4 position. This was all in support of Kayla Hampton, Lauren Metz and Emily Dudek who played the entire game.

The next game is on February 4th at Reading.

Wow!  How awesome is that!?!
