Football defeats Taylor 28-7

The football team defeated Taylor on Thursday night 28-7.

Will Marty connected with Ben Kurtz on a 44-yard touchdown pass in the first quarter to open the scoring.  Ben made a nice move right after the catch to evade a Taylor defender (imagine Chris Berman saying "woop").

Taylor came back and tied it in the first.  The score remained 7-7 deep into the 2nd quarter.  Right before half we took over at our own 49.  Three penalties, a run and an incomplete pass later, we were 3rd and 20 at our 39.  After a Taylor penalty, Max Kadish ripped off a 21 yard gain that I thought was one of the two critical moments in the game.  (Great misdirection play - I at least had no idea where the ball was.)  Two Phillip Schuholz runs later we were in the end zone.  That late 1st half touchdown completely changed the momentum heading into the locker room.

Taylor took the kickoff to start the 2nd half and ran twice to set up 3rd and two at their 18.  Their QB dropped back for a pass and Dennis Austin provided excellent pressure, forcing a bad throw.  Mikey Gonzalez picked it off and ran it back for six.

So two minutes before half and it's 7-7, anybody's game.  Two minutes after halftime and we're up 21-7 and the game feels decided.

The final TD came on a third quarter, six yard TD run by Adam Chalmers, wait...what?, yes - Adam's been showing up the backfield on occasion.  (And Peter Kraner on the defensive line for that matter.)

We outgained Taylor 366-194 for the game.  In addition to Mikey's pick six, Brian Anderson had an interception.

Max again led the receivers - he had six catches for 111 yards for a healthy 18.5 yard average.  Phillip picked up 168 yards on 23 carries, including a 43-yarder.

Next up: at Mariemont next Friday at 7:30.

Interesting matchup tonight between CHL undefeateds with Indian Hill (5-1 overall) at Madeira (6-0 overall).
