On a blazing hot September afternoon, the
Wyoming Boy’s Golf team took down the Badin Rams by a score of 154-170. The
Cowboys maintained an undefeated record on their home course and were led by
the medalist for the round, Sophomore Sam Marty. Marty shot even par on Monday,
followed close behind by Seniors Henry Moore and Chris Betagole, who shot a 37
and a 40 respectively. This victory adds to their one-loss record, and all the
players are looking forward to a trimatch this Wednesday at home vs. Indian
Hill and Sycamore.
“They’re a big school, D1, knowing them they should have
some good players,” Marty told me about Sycamore.
“Yeah, they’re gonna be pretty strong, but I like our
chances,” Moore added about the Aviators. “Saying that though, we can’t
underestimate them, until the last putt falls, it’s up in the air.”
The Cowboy team also looks to finish the season undefeated
in the CHL. “We should be free sailing for the rest of our CHL contests,” Marty
said.
The playoffs are a hot topic around the clubhouse,
especially to Junior John Hughes, who finished 4th for Wyoming on
Monday with a 41. “The Wyoming Boys Golf team is similar to New England
Patriots when it comes to playoff time,” he told me. “Once we get there, we
mean business, we’re in it to win it. That’s all I got to say.”
Head Coach Rod Crider told me that he “is very pleased with
the team’s performance tonight, and we’re trying to focus on shooting the best
score on the course, not necessarily the opponent.”
The Cowboys look to finish out the regular season strong and
begin the postseason on September 23rd in sectionals.
