Football goes to 3-1 with win over Reading (full post)

The football team improved its record to 3-1 on Thursday night with a 21-0 victory over Reading.

The teams played to a scoreless tie at halftime.  In the third quarter, Reading received the kickoff and picked up a first down before being forced to punt.  We took over at our own 15.  Drew Perry then ran the ball eight straight times, including a 46-yarder.  Robert Gomez finished the drive with a 1-yard run for the score.

In the fourth, Drew broke off a 38-yard run for Wyoming's second TD.

Reading returned the subsequent kick to its 46, but on the first play from scrimmage Tony Davis caused a fumble which Tommy Campbell recovered.  A Robert Gomez to Jonathan Tighe pass for 31 yards, 2 Antwoine O'Neil runs, and a Tommy Campbell (yes Tommy Campbell) 8-yard run, and we were on Reading's four.  Robert then hit Michael Travers with a 4-yard pass for the final TD of the night.

Joe Panos was 3-3 on extra points.

The defense turned in a strong effort, allowing Reading just 108 yards and five first downs the entire game (three of those first downs came in the fourth).  They also forced two fumbles, recovering one, and had an interception (Adam Chalmers).

In contrast, our offense gained 344 total yards and had 17 first downs.

Drew Perry totalled 145 yards rushing on 19 carries.

Ben Kurtz, Jonathan Tighe, Chris Dolle, Phillip Schuholz and Michael Travers all had receptions, with Jonathan's 31-yarder the longest.

Heads Up Award goes to Michael Travers, who pointed out to the official that he had placed the ball on the (soccer) penalty kick line rather than the extra point line after Michael's TD reception.

The new assistant principal Mr. Styles led the students in a cheer.

The Middle School athletes were honored at halftime.

Next up: at home next Friday the 24th vs. Mariemont.  Homecoming parade is at 6:30, game at 7:30.
