Matt Rooks named boys' basketball coach

MATT ROOKS TO LEAD THE WYOMING COWBOYS BASKETBALL TEAM

WYOMING, OH – At tonight’s regular Board Meeting, the Wyoming Board of Education unanimously approved the hiring of Matt Rooks as the Head Men’s Basketball Coach of the Wyoming Cowboys. Matt replaces former Head Coach Tony Gentry who stepped down at the conclusion of the 2012 season.

“I am pleased to announce the Board of Education has appointed Matt Rooks as Head Basketball Coach of Wyoming High School,” stated Dr. Susan Lang, Superintendent. “An interview committee comprised of parents, staff and administration recommended him from over 51 applicants. Not only is he knowledgeable and passionate about the game of basketball, his excellence as a teacher and leader at Moeller is well documented and he has earned respect from students, parents, colleagues, and community members.”

“I am excited about the opportunity to lead the Wyoming Cowboys and the future of the Basketball Program.” said Coach Rooks. “I look forward to working with the student-athletes of Wyoming High School. What I have observed in a short amount of time is that not only is there a terrific group of athletes, it is a terrific group of young adults and I am honored to have the opportunity to help them grow as future leaders.”

Coach Rooks has been a teacher and a coach at Moeller High School for the past 7 years, where he has worked as a Physical Education/Health Teacher and Basketball Coach. His coaching experience at Moeller has offered him the opportunity to coach in multiple Regional and State level games.

“I am very excited about Matt being our head basketball coach” said Wyoming Athletic Director Scott Kaufman. “As an AD, whenever you have guys like Dan Fleming and Carl Kremer calling to recommend the same guy, you’d be crazy not to take the time to stop and listen. Matt possesses everything we were looking for in a head coach— he is a well-respected, strong leader and he has a great knowledge and passion for the game of basketball.”

On Monday Night, the Board of Education approved Matt Rooks to be the new Boys Varsity Basketball Head Coach for the Wyoming Cowboys.

There will be a “Meet the Coach Night” in the Wyoming Middle School Fay Auditorium on Thursday, April 26th at 7:00 p.m.

The meeting is open to all Wyoming Community members. Wyoming Boys Basketball Families in grades 6-12 are encouraged to attend to meet Coach Rooks and hear about his Program Philosophies and review the Summer Schedule. He will also have available information available about youth camps and leagues.
