For the third consecutive year, Wyoming's boys swim team finished as Division II state runner-up to powerhouse Hunting Valley University School.
Although it doesn't equate to the ultimate prize, the Cowboys were pleased with their performance at Friday night's D-II state championship meet at C.T. Branin Natatorium.
"Second place has been like gold," said Wyoming senior A.J. Burt. "I've never been more proud. It's never one person in swimming, it's everyone. I couldn't be happier."
The Cowboys finished with 191 points, far behind Hunting Valley's 377 but just ahead of third-place Dayton Oakwood's 171.
Wyoming wrapped up the evening by finishing second behind Hunting Valley in the 400 yard freestyle relay. The Cowboys, who were the defending state champions in the event, finished in 3:08.77 behind the Preppers' time of 3:07.59.
Wyoming finished third in the 200 freestyle relay and seventh in the 200 yard medley relay.
"We wanted to pull one of the relays out and finish first," said Wyoming head coach Dave Elliott. "But we fought all day. We kept moving up throughout the evening. I'm happy for the seniors who will go out strong. This is kind of our state championship."
Wyoming junior Eric Lethander was fifth in the 200 IM finishing in 1:56.39. He was eighth in the 100 yard butterfly.Full Enquirer article (with picture) here.
