As oppossed to last week's drive, which started off with two sacks and required two fourth down conversions, this one almost lacked drama as the offense marched down the field methodically with Eaton's defense seemingly unable to even slow its progress. Kyle Seyfried was 2-2 passing on the drive with a 7-yarder to Spencer Herbst and a 28-yarder to Evan Aleshire. Isiah Nearor carried the ball four times for 31 yards. This all got us down to the three. It took two QB sneaks to get us down to the 1. Our failure to score quickly from the three, though, merely meant that Eaton had to burn their last 2 timeouts of the half. On third down, Isiah took it in from the 1 for his second touchdown of the game.
There was still 2:24 left in the game, so the defense would have to make one last stand. Daltin Caudill, Eaton's fine running back who rushed for 176 yards on the game, returned the kickoff to the 40. But in four plays the defense held Eaton to just one complete pass for four yards. We took over on downs and ran out the clock.
For the game, Eaton outgained us 433-412. Isiah had another 100-yard game, picking up 110 yards on 23 carries. Although he did not throw any passes, he definitely picked up some yardage through the air.
Kyle actually had the long run of the night though with a 27-yarder. He was also 13-20 for 235 yards passing. He ran for 2 TD's and 2 PAT's. Finally, he executed a perfect quick kick (although it was on fourth down so maybe that's a bad term for it), netting 38 yards and pinning Eaton down at their 1.
To me the difference in the game was turnovers. With both offenses having such success, these were as much drive stoppers as anything. We turned it over once, but they did twice, with Max Kadish recovering an Eaton fumble and Isiah intercepting a pass.
Finally, Congratulations to Head Coach Bernie Barre for his 300th win. He is 300-101 on his career and 165-47 at Wyoming.
