A Hot Start in the Cold

The Wyoming HS Girl's Lacrosse team opened their 2015 season at home against Mother of Mercy HS.    The JV team, lead by Goalie Avery Barzizza, played a tight game with Mercy with Ellen Boster scoring in the last 17 seconds of the game to bring the score to a tie and its eventual conclusion at 5 - 5.  Wyoming scoring was lead by Madelyn Taylor with 4 with assists credited to Caroline Abel and Annie Boster.
The Varsity saw a high shooting Cowboy game with 34 shots of which 12 were netted for a victory, final score Wyoming 12, Mercy 8.  Goalie Claire Mellott recorded 3 saves and the defensive platooning of Grace Schneider, Emma Komrska, Lindsay Stewart, Grace Steiner, Carly Schlager, and Emily Wood kept Mercy's offense off balance.  Scoring was lead by Marielle Smith (4), with additional goals by Adi Smith (3), Maggie Hughes (2), Reilly Simmons (2), and Emily Wadds (1).  Haley Stewart set a school record with most draw controls in a game (10) as she and center Olivia Cunningham ensured a game dominated by Cowboy offense.
Next up, Lakota West, at home on Wednesday March 25.
Varsity gametime is 5:30,
JV gametime is 6:45.
