Volleyball falls to McNick

Our girls suffered a rare loss on the road, Saturday September 29th, to McNick.  After losing the first two sets, they came within a point of taking the last one.  Expect to see a re-focused team as they host Taylor on Tuesday, October 2nd.  JV at 5:30 and Varsity at 6:30.

There are a few more pictures HERE.

The camera of Rod Apfelbeck was seen at the game, so keep an eye out for more pictures to come in soon.

Wyoming Football Smashes Two School Records

On Friday , Septmeber 29th, our boys had a record setting night against the Deer Park Wildcats.

From Scott Springer, Community Press

Tied 12-12 with 55 seconds left in the first half, Wyoming’s Will Marty marched the Cowboys down the field at Deer Park and found Dominic Vamosi in the end zone just 46 seconds later to take a 19-12 halftime lead.
Those points were the first of 29 straight scored by Wyoming as they went on to defeat the Wildcats Sept. 28, 41-12.
Marty had scoring passes in the second half to Bilal Dawson, Dawson Rogers and Ben Kurtz as the Cowboys went on to their fourth consecutive victory. The 4-2 Cowboys are at Taylor Oct. 5.

Ben Kurtz not only broke, but smashed, two school records.
1. Most Receptions in a Game with 13 receptions. (broke record of 11 set in 2002)
2. Most Receiving yardage in a Game with 301 yards. (broke record of 224 set in 2009)

Will Marty went 23 /29 with 434 yards (out of a total of 459 yards offensively).

The team is now 2nd in the CHL right behind Madeira, and right ahead of Taylor (next week's opponent).  All three of these teams are 3-0 in League games.

You have to admire the showmanship of our team.  Give the fans a full half of nail-biting close-game action, and then give them a full half of thrill-a-minute scoring bonanza.  Well worth the price of admission.

Varsity Volleyball Heads above the Competition

On Thursday, September 27, the Girls Varsity Volleyball turned sweet sixteen.  As in 16 wins so far this season.  They defeated Indian Hill  25-13, 25-12, 25-11.  And today (Saturday the 29th) come out and support the team as they travel to McNick to remind them why we are currently ranked first, right above them in the Enquirer's Week 4 Division II Coaches Poll.  Game times today are 11AM for the JV and 12 noon for the Varsity

Boys Varsity Golf Comes Out Strong in Sectionals

From Coach Crider

Earlier today, the WHS Boys Varsity Golf Team continued their stellar play by capturing the Southern Ohio Division II Sectional Championship @ Sharon Woods. The Cowboys posted a team total of 327, which was good for a 5 shot victory over 2nd place Madeira. Junior Henry Moore led the way with a round of 78, followed by Sophomore Stephen Cholvat who posted an 80. Junior Chris Betagole (84) and Freshman Sam Marty (85) also posted for the Cowboys. The ability to hit the “long ball” helped carry the Cowboys to victory today as the weather (off and on rain) and already wet ground on the golf course combined to make for very challenging conditions. Check out the Cowboys as they flex their muscles in a post tournament celebration --- HUZZAH!!
GO COWBOYS!!

Way to go Team!!

Not to be left out

After Football, Tennis, and JV Boys Soccer shut out Reading over the last week, the Varsity Boys Soccer figured they might as well do the same.

From Coach Thomas

Senior Midfielder Daniel Richtand and Junior Midfielder Ryan Derge scored two goals each as Wyoming defeated CHL rival Reading 6-0 on Monday night, September 24th, at Reading. Also scoring for the cowboys were Senior Midfielder David Weinrich and Senior Striker Benji Kriner. Assisting on the goals were Senior Striker Nathan Meisner, Senior Midfielder Scotty Perry, Senior Defender Shane Burck, and Senior Midfielder Daniel Richtand. The cowboy defense was also very good allowing Reading only 2 shots on goal. Senior Goal Keeper Harrison Glover recorded his seventh shut-out on the season. Wyoming is currently 7-1-2 and will face league rival Finneytown on October 2nd, at 7pm, at Wyoming.

Thanks to Bridget Glover for relaying the good news!

This is the third picture in a series of four.  Check them out in order at Rod Apfelbeck's gallery using the link at the end of this post.

Well, the JV Men's Soccer did it again! They beat Reading by a whopping 7-0. During the first half of the game there were breakaway goals by Sam Izenson and Matthew Lethander. Also scoring in the first half were Toby Varland and Ryan Knapp! The guys didn't let up I the second half of the game. Matthew Lethander scored his second goal of the game to start of the second half. Toby Varland had an assist to Ivan Meisner for goal 6. And Sam Izenson scored the final goal of the game. Point Park University Baseball Showcase

Coach Chris Fiehrer recieved this letter and has passed it along

Coach,

I hope this finds you well. My name is Loren Torres and I am the head baseball coach at Point Park University. We are going to be conducting a tryout/showcase for our baseball program on Saturday and Sunday, October 6th and 7th. I would like to invite any player that has interest in playing at the next level. We are aware of the fact that there are many quality players in the area that do not get enough exposure during the year. We want to offer them an opportunity to get exposure before the end of the fall. As collegiate coaches, we are often busy during the spring with our programs and lack the time to get out to games in order to see these players. We want to make sure that we cover the area well and give the local players a good opportunity to play collegiate baseball.

We are a four-year university design to equip students academically and to challenge them on the field. Here at Point Park, we pride ourselves in the ability to meet the needs of our student-athletes by providing them a high quality education while they strive to excel athletically. We compete in the Kentucky Intercollegiate Athletic Conference. Besides playing a very competitive conference schedule, we also compete against other top four-year institutions all over the country. We conduct fall and spring seasons, and have a structured strength and conditioning program.

Our program has a rich history of success on the field. We have made 11 appearances at the NAIA World Series, one being this past season, and we are taking the necessary steps to continue to compete at that level. During the showcase, we will be looking for a large number of recruits at all positions and evaluating the underclassmen for our future recruitment. It would be great to see your players come out. This will be a great opportunity for them to get coverage from a local university.

Please have each player contact me as soon as possible in order to register. Your timely cooperation will be greatly appreciated. I have attached our showcase flyer for you to print and pass along to your players. If you have any questions, do not hesitate to contact me at the email address or telephone number listed below. Please have each player contact me via email or telephone to register, and we will get him or her necessary details for the showcase.

Thanks for your help!

How Cool is This?

From Neil Richtand

Videos of the varsity soccer games are being posted to Smugmug at the following link:http://neil--r.smugmug.com/Sports/Wyoming-soccer-videos-2012

You can watch the videos online, and choose among five video qualities to stream at. You can also download the videos to your home computer, again choosing between five different video qualities to download, up to high definition video. The videos are uploaded in small clips because of the large size of the high definition files. At this point full videos of the Taylor, Indian Hill , and Reading games are posted

Moving forward, the video of each game will be posted within a few days of the game.

Only partial videos are posted of games prior to Indian Hill. (And I'll post the rest of those games if someone can teach me how to snip video MTS files into smaller clips- so far that has eluded my technical capabilities).

My apologies for the quality of the Indian Hill video- it was a tough angle to shoot from.

Happy soccer watching,

Neil Richtand
