The Season Opener

Kara Pendery reported from the Saturday, August 23rd Girls Varsity Soccer game at Little Miami.

The Cowboys were originally introduced as the Colts, so maybe that threw them off a bit.  The Cowboys' first game of the season resulted in a tie.  Wyoming dominated for the majority of the game.  The refs gave the girls a couple of water breaks due to the humidity and heat. It was great to see several ladies taking shots on goal, but we couldn't get it in the net. It was 0 - 0 at the half.  Little Miami came back stronger in the 2nd half, but Wyoming kept them scoreless for the majority of the half.  Wyoming's only goal came when the Cowboys worked the ball down the field, starting with a pass from Kayla Hampton to Sonia Pendery.  Sonia made a great cross from the outside where Casey Jervier was waiting to put it in the net. We kept the lead until the final 2 minutes of the game.  Little Miami took the opportunity, from a free kick just outside the box, to tie the game at 1 - 1.
Thanks to Kara Pendery for the report. She also snapped some pictures, including one of local legend, Rod Apfelbeck, before he was mistaken for the paparazzi and escorted bodily from the field.
Did he throw up is hands in despair?  Did he hang his head and cry?  No way.  The never-say-die attitude and grit of our Cowboys has obviously rubbed off on him over the years, as he still found a way to dodge the soccer field bouncers and bring home photographic gold from the outside of the maximum security chain link fence force field.
