It was a great weekend for Wyoming Ultimate.
For the second year in a row, the boys from Wyoming’s Ultimate team placed third in the regional tournament Saturday to qualify for the State tournament. Wyoming knocked off teams from Centerville, Moeller, and Lebanon before falling to eventual champion, Home School, and then crushing Mason to claim third place. Seniors Joe White and Jaden Shapiro led the Jackrabbits all day, with Joe racking up 18 scoring throws and five goals caught and Jaden eight and two. Senior Daniel Tighe had eight scoring grabs in the five games, while junior Nick Nance chipped in with five in his first call up from the JV squad. The 12-team State tournament will be played in Versailles on June 4-5—and yes, that is graduation weekend!
The Jackrabbits returned to regular league co-ed play on Sunday, with the varsity topping Lebanon’s varsity 14-3, to raise their record to 5-1. Seniors Gus Bradley and Daniel Tighe led the scoring charge, each with two scoring throws and four goal catches. On a blustery day, the Jackrabbits repeatedly shredded Lebanon’s zone D with impressive strings of completions in a good team offense concept, with senior Bailey Skidmore in particular putting on a “cutting to open space” clinic. The varsity plays its final game Sunday at 4:45 at the Rec Center vs Home School in what should be a high level contest between two of the league’s top teams.
The JV dropped an 8-11 decision to Lebanon’s JV, falling to 2-4 on the year.
Nice.
