A Great Start

Congratulations to both the Older (Junior/Senior) and Younger (Freshman/Sophomore) teams who played in the Little Miami Pre-Season High School Tournament this past week-end, and the McNick Preseason Invitational last weekend.

The older team again went undefeated two week-ends  in a row winning all their games. Even receiving the First Place trophy at the Little Miami Tournament.   So far in 2 pre-season tournaments, the older team has gone 8-0-0 and has only allowed 2 goals while scoring  27 goals.  Not too shabby!
The younger team also did well.  This past week-end going 2-2-0 and 4-3-1 over the past 2 week-ends.

Tryouts for the Men's Soccer team are August 3rd and 4th at 6pm.
Looking forward to an exciting season!

Way Back With Baxter

An eagle-eyed reader spotted some accolades for Wyoming alum, Patrick Baxter on the Cincinnati State Surge Athletics site

"Throughout the upcoming school year, Cincinnati State will be celebrating the numerous accomplishments of the past & present.

This week, we take a look at soccer player Patrick Baxter.

Baxter came to Cincinnati State with an impressive high school resume. Playing forward for nearby Wyoming High School, Baxter set the school record with 40 goals as a senior and was selected to the All-Conference, All-City and All-State Teams in 2003.

Suiting up for the Surge in 2004, Baxter set nearly every statistical record including goals, assists and points. Leading the Surge to back-to-back OCCAC titles, Baxter tallied 54 goals, 43 assists and 151 points in two seasons which still ranks No. 1 in the college record books. As a sophomore, Baxter set single season records with 27 goals, 27 assists and 81 points. After leading the NJCAA in scoring, Baxter was named an NJCAA & NSCAA All-American.

“When you look at all the individuals that have come through our program, Pat’s name is at the top of the list,” Head Coach Mike Combs says. “He made the most of his opportunities at Cincinnati State and helped set the standard for our student-athletes.”

After graduating from Cincinnati State, Baxter went on to play and start at the University of Cincinnati, helping the Bearcats to the 2006 Big East Conference title.

After earning his degree from UC, Baxter served as the head coach for youth soccer club South Carolina United FC, a position he held until 2011. Baxter currently resides in Chicago working as a Business Development Analyst at CIT."

A Team to Watch

The Cowboys made the list as one of JJ Huddles 2015 Teams To Watch

"The Cowboys must replace seven first and second team All-CHL selections, but they do return 10 players that earned league laurels from a squad that earned the program’s 20th playoff berth. Expectations are high. Junior QB Andrew Marty (6-4, 205) returns after throwing for 1,409 yards and 14 TDs last season. He also ran for 224 yards and three TDs. Senior RB Justin Shields (5-8, 190) joins Marty in the backfield where he ran for 769 yards and 15 TDs a year ago. Wyoming must replace its top two WRs but look for junior Jake Edmonds (5-11, 180/22 rec., 253 yards, TD) to fill that role. The OL will be especially strong with the return of seniors Eric Perry (6-3, 260/4-year starter), Eddie Warren (6-3, 250/3-year starter), Hogan Baird (6-0, 260) and Sam Storm (6-4, 220). Senior DB Mason Rogers (6-0, 180/28 tackles) returned two of his five INTs for TDs last season. Senior LBs Tucker Berger (5-9, 195/126 tackles) and Max Tash (6-1, 180/89 tackles, three FF)  and senior linemen Ken Larkin (6-4, 210/72 tackles), Cooper O’Gara (5-11, 270/62 tackles) and Jamal Fox (6-3, 220/34 tackles) lead the front seven. Head coach Aaron Hancock is 25-8 in three years."

Opportunities to Serve

The great enrichment that comes from athletic participation is priceless, but it doesn't come without cost.  Currently there a few opportunities for you to help advance the Cowboy cause.

The Boosters are looking for someone to fill the role of Concessions Coordinator.  (This is a Board position so, you know, there's the glory factor to consider also.)  There is an urgent need for the outdoor concessions for this Fall and Spring.  That's right, I said Fall.  You know, the season that will be here sooner than you think.  Before you let yourself get overwhelmed, realize that we're looking for a Coordinator and while the Coordinator gets all the fame, there will be several committees that will be in place that will do the heavy lifting.  It's like a win-win-win situation.  You're welcome.

And if you're reading this and rolling your eyes because you "gave at the office" and don't see the reason to also volunteer your time and skill set to the Boosters then maybe that's because the Boosters haven't been very proactive in letting the community understand exactly what we do.  If only we had someone to help us get the good word out.  Yes, that's right, we are also looking for someone to fill a Marketing position for the Boosters also.
So close your eyes and think back to last season when little Johnny made his first tackle.  What was that you were holding in your hand?  Oh that's right, it was a delicious burger (ordered through the Concessions Coordinator's committee) grilled to perfection by dedicated volunteers (who were scheduled through the Concessions Coordinator's committee), and was that a frosty cold cola (again there because it was ordered through the Concessions Coordinator's committee) you spilled all over the couple sitting next to you as you jumped up and down in your excitement.  Yeah, I remember that too.  (The stains came out in case you were wondering).  Don't you want to give that experience to others this Fall?  Of course you do.
Or maybe you want to help, but maybe you're more right-brained.  Then you close you're eyes and think back to last Wednesday when you told those poor suckers over in Accounting that there were free doughnuts in the break room.  Remember how good you felt by spreading good, useful information to the masses?  Want to keep that high going?  Of course you do.

The Grass is Always Greener

My Clark Kent type day job took me to Withrow High School the other day to locate a City of Cincinnati Benchmark.  While there I took a minute to marvel at their soon-to-be-new Baseball field.
Just for reference, here is our own field
Now I'm not trying to advocate keeping up with the Jones's.  I just thought you'd appreciate looking at a beautiful green field (well, I guess our field is green too, maybe just a little too green).  So here it is again.
 And here's ours again
