Alumni Game

7:00 pm, Saturday, July 11th is the Boys Soccer Alumni Game.  So get the gang back together to show these young'uns how the game was played back in the day.  Pass this on to any former Wyoming player.  Contact Coach Thomas for more information.

And for the uninitiated, these games are pretty fun to watch.  Plan on coming out to get both a glimpse of the past and a preview of the future all in one game.

Big Night in Blue Ash

Coach Valerie Fuller gets us caught up with the Seadragons:

The Wyoming Seadragons had a busy week. First, we swam against the Norwood Barracudas on Tuesday. We won that meet by quite a large amount. One of the highlights of that night was one of our littlest seadragons swimming a 25 backstroke for the first time. It was very exciting!

On Thursday, the Seadragons swam agains the Blue Ash Blue Fins. This was a tough one! We prevailed by only 24 points. It sure was a close one. Those that were there swam their hearts out!

Quality still matters, even on Summer break.  So we re-present to you our post about Scott Springer's Cincinnati.com article about Ben Stites in all its original glory - but now with an actual honest-to-goodness link for you click.
Did you see Scott Springer's article about Ben Stites at Cincinnati.com HERE?  I'm not sure the Stites' want Flo to read it but you should.

Power In The Pool

From Head Coach, Valerie Fuller

The Wyoming Seadragons had a busy week. On Tuesday they had a great turnout against the Springdale Sailfish. Wyoming was victorious by 200 points. It was great to see all of the new swimmers come out and give their best effort.

On Thursday the Seadragons tried to swim against the St. Bernard Stingrays but the weather had other plans. The meet got started but unfortunately got rained out an hour into it.

Next week, the Seadragons host Norwood and then travel to Blue Ash.

First Meet!

The Wyoming Seadragons kicked off their season last Thursday against rival Evendale Eagles. The result was a win! The Seadragons won 33 individual events and 15 relay events. It was a great first meet.

The 2015 Seadragons are led by returning Head Coach, Valerie Fuller and returning coaches Kay Benken and Jenna Igel. New to the coaching staff this year are Stephen Barrett, Carson Burt, and Dan Schneider. Everyone is looking forward to a great season.
Thanks to Coach Fuller for the details

Stites Takes Bronze

Thursday, June 11th, William & Mary Junior and Wyoming alumna, Emily Sites ('12) ran in the NCAA Finals 10,000m run where she placed 3rd!

The race was televised on ESPN.  Unofficial reports have come in that our hometown girl done good didn't get a lot of coverage.  For those of you with Flo-Track Pro there are additional videos of the race and interviews available HERE

Picture above from the Tribe Athletics website.  Check out the site HERE for a great Jacob Skipper article and a post-race interview video with Emily.

Must-See TV

William and Mary Junior and Wyoming Alumna Awesomna Emily Stites ('12) will run in the NCAA National Championships 10,000m in Eugene Oregon on Thursday.  The race will be televised on ESPN at 9:38 (Cincinnati time) in Eugene, Oregon at the NCAA National Championships.  She was 10th last year, but sibling rivalry being what it is, maybe brother Ben Stites's recent win in the State 3200 might spur her on to greater glory.

Season Ends with Success at State

From Coach Glendenning's  RunWyoming blog

In his first appearance in the state finals, Junior Kolan Livingston earned a 12th place finish in the discus. Kolan's best throw measured 143 feet, 2 inches. He gained great experience as one of only 5 competitors eligible to return next season. Later in the day Senior Ben Stites claimed a state title in the 3200m run, capping off one of the greatest seasons and careers in school history. The leaders came through the first mile at 4:44 with Ben sitting at the back of the front pack. Over the next 3 laps several runners faded leaving Ben in a 2-man duel with 500m remaining. He hammered a 62 second last lap, seizing the lead 300m from the finish for a convincing victory. With a winning time of 9:25.09 Ben broke his own school record set earlier this year and concluded another successful season for Wyoming Track & Field!

District Track and Field Fun

From Coach Glendenning and the RunWyoming blog:

2 of our track/field athletes advanced to the State Championship with their performances this weekend at Dayton.  Junior Kolan Livingston threw 145 feet 3 inches, finishing third in the Discus.  He'll make his first trip to Columbus, following his sister Kayla who qualified in the hurdles in 2013.  Senior Ben Stites is heading to the state track meet for the 3rd time, each in a different event.  Saturday he qualified 2nd in the 3200m, adding to previous appearances in the 4x800m relay and 1600m.

Kolan will throw Saturday morning at 9:30 AM and Ben will run at 2:45.  State events take place at Jessie Owens Stadium on the Ohio State University campus.

Congratulations to all our regional qualifiers for a great season!  Complete results from Dayton are available HERE.

One for the Record Books

Bob Carter loves putting in the overtime (or at least we love making him).  We kept him reporting well after the regular season ended.  Now he wraps up the Boys Tennis season for us.

Special Edition: The Boys Varsity Tennis team wrapped up their season by placing 2nd in the State Division II Doubles Tournament in Columbus!
Sixteen of the best Division II doubles teams from all around the state played this past weekend on The Ohio State campus, and the setting was just like professional tennis: match umpires sitting on tall chairs calling out the score, players challenging calls, big score board, and a large section for spectator viewing. They even open up a new can of tennis balls if the match goes to a third set. If you have ever been to the ATP tournament in Mason, the excitement and intensity at the state tournament was every bit the same.
Myles Bourbon and Will Carter represented the Cowboys in Division II Doubles play at the state tournament.  Myles and Will were the Mason Section DII Doubles Champs and the Southwest District DII Doubles  Champs  heading into the state tournament. They beat their first three opponents from, respectively, Beechwood (Cleveland), Lexington (near Mansfield), and Ottawa Hills (Toledo) to advance to the state finals match. Roughly 300 to 400 Division II doubles teams started the tournament, and it came down to just two teams: Wyoming versus Cincinnati Country Day. This was one of the hardest fought and best played matches I have ever seen (and I’m not just saying that as the Dad of one of the players), but  Myles and Will lost by the slimmest of margins: 6-3, 4-6, 6-7 with 8-10 in the third set tie breaker (think of it like double overtime). A more exciting tennis match, you will not watch. As the runner up in the finals match, Will and Myles placed 2nd in the State Division II Doubles Tournament for 2015!!
To understand how big of an achievement this is, we have to go back to the record books. Wyoming has a rich tradition of competitive tennis, and took 3rd place in Division II state doubles play in both 2009 and 2011. But you have to go back over 40 years to find a Wyoming doubles team (or individual singles player, for that matter) to have placed 2nd in the state, or better. For you long time Wyoming residents, the doubles team of Steve Bernard and Jake Agna also came in 2nd in the state in 1971 (and, coincidentally, they also lost to Cincinnati Country Day, by a score of 6-0, 6-1). So, as the 2015 Boys Varsity Tennis season comes to an end, Will and Myles can proudly take their place in the OHSAA (state), Southwest District, and Wyoming High School record books!
Given this accomplishment, Myles and Will stated getting congratulatory notes from friends literally as soon as the match ended. How was that possible?  Kieren Thomas, who cheered the team on at EVERY state match, also live tweeted updates from the game!  I’m not exactly sure what a tweet is, but I’m told it’s a good thing.
The Boys Varsity Tennis team worked hard this entire season, and it shows in the end of season awards, as noted below. Congratulations to team captains and graduating seniors Myles, Will, and Kieren. And, finally,  a special BIG THANKS to coach Laurie Hoppenjans.

Myles Bourbon (senior and captain): DII Doubles State Runner-up, GCTCA 1st Team Singles, CHL All Conference 1st Team

Will Carter (senior and captain): DII Doubles State Runner-up, GCTCA 1st team Doubles, GCTCA Sportsmanship Award, CHL All Conference 1st Team, WHS Cowboy Award

Kieren Thomas (senior and captain): GCTCA 1st Team Doubles, CHL All Conference 2nd Team, WHS Most Improved Player

Chris Murray (junior): GCTCA 2nd team Singles, CHL All Conference 1st Team, WHS Most Valuable Player

Nolan Morley (junior): CHL All Conference 2nd Team, GCTCA Honorable Mention Doubles, WHS Most Improved Player

Jay Klein (junior): GCTCA Honorable Mention Singles, CHL Honorable Mention

Alex Sfryis (junior): GCTCA Honorable Mention Doubles

This is Bob Carter signing off after a GREAT season (that is, of course, until the start of Girls tennis in the fall - can’t wait!)

Congratulations to the team on a great season, and
Congratulations to Myles and Will on their State match!
Thanks to Bob Carter for the faithful reporting and the great pictures.

One Last Time

On Sunday, Parker Chalmers represented Wyoming in the East/West All Star game at Prasco Park.  Parker’s West all stars beat the East squad 5-4, scoring in the bottom of the 9th for the win.  Parker was 1 for 2 with a double and a run scored.
