Reverse halfback pass difference as football team loses to Roger Bacon

"This is a great high school football game."

That's what one of the cameramen from a local TV station said to me during the Wyoming-Roger Bacon first round playoff game Saturday night.  I figure he's a pretty good judge as he's been to a bunch of games and had no dog in the fight.

Unfortunately one team has to fall even in great games and that was the Cowboys Saturday night, 26-21.

It was a tough way to lose.  We had the lead late in the fourth quarter (just over 2 minutes to play) when Roger Bacon took over on their own 35.  They ran a reverse halfback pass that went 65 yards for a TD and changed a 21-19 Cowboy lead into a 25-21 deficit.  An inexplicable 1 point conversion made it 26-21.

We drove all the way down to the 22 but could get no further.

Our TD's came on two yard runs by Tommy Campbell, Drew Perry and Max Kadish.  Kyle Seyfried was 20 of 33 for 289 yards.  He had big connections with Jonathan Tighe for 41 yards and Chris Campbell for 69.  Those plays set up Tommy and Max's TD's.

Michael Travers made a big play toward the end of the first half.  We turned the ball over with 43 seconds remaining so it looked like we'd go into the locker room with a 13-7 deficit.  Instead, Michael intercepted a pass and returned it to the two.  Drew ran it in from there.

Joe Panos was 3 for 3 on PAT's which for a long time looked like it would be the difference.

Congratulations to the players and Coach Barre and his staff for another great season.
