Swim Season Preview

For a preview of the upcoming swim season, check out Tom Ramstetter's Cincinnati.com article HERE.  You'll have to scroll down pretty far to get to the good stuff.  For those of you worried about carpal tunnel, I've isolated the DII section below.

"In Division II, the Wyoming boys return several key swimmers from last season’s team that finished third at state, just ahead of fourth-place Seven Hills. Cowboys coach Dave Elliott said he likes his team’s depth and experience, along with a strong freshman class.

Wyoming’s top returners are seniors Max Chou, Stephen Barrett and Ian Nyberg, junior Christopher Rutter and sophomore Carson Burt, with freshman Phil Brocker joining the mix.

Indian Hill, CHCA, Cincinnati Country Day, Mariemont Seven Hills and Wilmington will be among the other area Division II teams to watch.

The Indian Hill girls’ team will be among the top Division II girls’ teams, along with CCD, Wyoming, Mariemont, and Wilmington."

The Not-So-Old-ish Familiar Faces

Saturday, November 29th, was the Girls Basketball Alumnae Game.  Arch Cunningham was on-hand to capture the day.  Reports are coming in that lots of fun was had by all.  Actually, that's an embellishment, or a fib, or a lie, depending on your pronunciation.  No reports came in.  I would like to be able to say, "...reports came in...".  I know how much you love this team and want to see them promoted, so I know you had something prepared and ready to send in.  I guess you lost our contact info.

Send your reports, highlights, and stories to wyoroundup@gmail.com
Thanks to Arch Cunningham for the great pictures.

Boys Basketball Preview

The Boys Basketball team is looking forward to a great season under new coach, Tim Edmonds.  Check out Adam Turer's Cincinnati.com's preview HERE.
I don't think Mr. Turer is planning to regularly report to the Round Up, so if you're on the team, or if someone you love is on the team, take the time to submit stories, highlights, and pictures from the team.

Thanksgiving Day Racers

Some of the old gang got back together for the 2014 Thanksgiving Day Race.  I guess Danielle McKee, Isabella Renggli, Whitley Elsass, Lily Parker, and Emily Wood didn't see our post about how they were supposed to be playing Touch Football on Thanksgiving.

Thanks to Alan Parker for the photo.

Turkey Touch Football

Jason Gay's 26 (More) Rules of Thanksgiving Touch Football was sent to us by a super subscriber.   I'm not sure if I'm allowed to post it in it's entirety, so I'll give you a teaser.

7. Sure, you can call holding in Thanksgiving touch football. You can also skip Thanksgiving and go to the Bahamas. Both are hard to explain to your family.

Check out the other 25 rules from Jason Gay's Wall Street Journal's article HERE

Hey, wait a minute... what are you doing reading the Round Up today?  You're supposed to be out there on the garden-lined gridiron.

CHL All Conference Teams

If you have the day off - you're golden.  For the rest of us who have to make an appearance at the office today, I have a gift.  The boss and I both know you're just watching the clock willing it to go faster so you can go home.  I can take care of about an hour an half for you.  Below is a list of the CHL All-Conference Teams.  It's only 1.45 miles long; there's a lot of names in there.  If you're some kind of speed reader and still have time to kill after reading the list the first time, let's kill some more time.  Let's have a scavenger hunt.  Use the labels on the right side of the screen to jump to each sport.  See if we've posted a picture of each athlete mentioned.  If not, use the gallery links from each post to see if there is a picture of the missing athlete.  If you find a picture of an athlete who wasn't featured in a regular post, send me the name of the athlete and where you found their picture.  If there wasn't a picture in the gallery links, then take your own and send it in to wyoroundup@gmail.com

Cowboys on the Court

The Girls Basketball team starts their season on Thursday, December 4th against Winton Woods.  The Cowboys might have an uphill battle on their hands to defend their league title.  The good thing is that we know it's possible, and, knowing anything about the Cowboy spirit, even likely.

Think of how exciting it's going to be for you as you get the privilege of submitting reports about how great the team is doing.  The glory, the adulation, the free parking at all home games.  Yes, this will all be yours.  Thanks in advance for reporting for the Round-Up.

Well, You Did It. Thank You!

Howling Pooch Parade
It was a fabulous fall day for the Wyoming Youth Services Howling Pooch Parade this year at the Wyoming Civic Center.  Two and four legged friends of all sizes came out to support Wyoming Youth Services for this Annual event on October 26th. Attractions including an agility demonstration by Hamilton County Dog Club, a balloon artist, temporary tattoos, and bake sale to keep everyone entertained until the parade started at 2:00pm. The event raised over $3,300 for Wyoming Youth Services.

Run for the Kids
Despite bitterly cold temperatures, runners and walkers of all ages came out to participate in the 3rd Annual Run for the Kids on November 1st.  This fun costume run supporting Wyoming Youth Services was held at the Wyoming Recreation Center directly before the Haunted trail.   A record number of participants arrived, bundled up for the race, and a few brave and festive runners wore their Halloween costumes despite the cold!

Myles Pringle, age 17, came in first place overall with a time of 21:45.  The Lenning family swept a few awards of the evening as “best group” costume “The Incredibles” and Patty Lenning came in first in her age group.   The Snowden family had a night of “firsts” as they each ranked first in their age groups.  Austin Snowden was 1st place male at the middle school, Julia Snowden came in 1st place female at the high school, and Jason Snowden was the 1st male for Adults to age 50.  George White, President of the Board of Trustees of Wyoming Youth Services, went all out as “Superman” to receive “Best Individual” in the costume category.  The event raised over $4,300 for Wyoming Youth Services.
Thanks to Wyoming Youth Services and Julie Jones for the information and pictures.

Stites Back On the Run

Recently injured Wyoming alumna, William and Mary Junior, Emily Stites ('12) saw her first race this season on Friday, November 14th at the NCAA Southeast Regional at Louisville, KY.  Overcoming a fall early in the race, Emily worked her way up through the pack to place 25th, just 43 seconds behind the winner, and helped her team win the Southeast Regional.  Emily and the Tribe will run next Saturday at Terre Haute in the NCAA Championships.  It’s only a four hour drive and it would be nice to have a few more Wyoming fans there to cheer her on.

A Heads-Up

I've looked at the Round Up Winter programming forecast and I wanted to give you fair warning:  There's going to be a lot of Swimming posts coming up.  If you're anything like me and your eyes started burning after only looking at the chlorine choked atmosphere in the picture above, you're going to have to do something about it.  We can't not-post the swim pictures, so what's left to do?  Like sewer department creed - "Dilution is the Solution".  We may not be able to decrease the amount of swimming you see in the Round Up, but we can certainly decrease the percentage of swim related posts.  That means we need to increase the amount of shoe-utilized Winter sports posts.  To give your eyes a break every once in a while, YOU are going to have to submit stories, scores, highlights, and or pictures from your favorite Winter sport.

By the way, I'm not kidding about the YOU part up there.  I've asked around and everybody keeps giving me your name.  I don't know what that's all about, but what can we do?  I know you don't want to let everybody down.

From AD Jan Wilking,

As many are aware our long time volleyball coach has retired from the sidelines.  As a part of the process of selecting the next coach we would like to learn from the Wyoming volleyball community what you view as the most important criteria for selection.  The following link is a 3 question survey.  If you are interested in giving input into the process please complete the survey by December 1, 2014.  The job will be posted and advertised starting on December 1, 2014.  We hope to have interviews in December and a final candidate to the Board of Education for approval no later than the February meeting.

A View From the Top

Did you see Andrew Derge was selected All-State First Team in Division II and Jay Klein was selected All-State Second Team in Division II?  All these pictures are from the All-City awards ceremony at the All-Southwest Ohio Senior All Star Game.

That's four "All"s in one sentence. There's gotta be an award for that somewhere too, right?

CHL All Sports Trophy Correction

We recently posted about Wyoming's lead in the CHL All Sports Trophy (HERE).  Despite having a full 10 fingers to count with, I still made a mathilogical error and overlooked our 5th CHL winning team.  Thanks to an eagle-eyed reader for pointing out my oversight.

My apologies to the
CHL
CHAMPION
GIRLS
CROSS
COUNTRY
TEAM.
The Girls Cross Country Team took the title in a race that "featured 6 teams in the top 10 of the Cincinnati Enquirer DII/III Coaches Poll.  Our team combined for their strongest performance of the season, scoring 36 and easily outdistancing 2nd-place Madeira's 73.  Katie Spray finished second with a career-best time of 20:21, and Whitley Elsass and Terra Forsythe followed close behind in 3rd and 5th.  All 3 earned 1st-Team All-CHL honors.  Danielle McKee received 2nd-Team All-League for her 8th place performance.  Emily Wood (who set a new PR by over 100 seconds!), Lily Parker, and Isabella Renggli all finished in front of the 5th scorer of every other team.  4 Wyoming girls ran under 21 minutes at the CHL Championship for the first time since the league meet moved to Sharon Woods.  Also, Katie and Whitley again moved up the individual all-time WHS Top 20 list." Wyoming Cowboys in Command of CHL All Sports Trophy

As if there was ever any doubt after taking league titles in 4 of 8 Fall sports (Football, Boys Cross County, Boys Soccer, and Volleyball), the Cowboys have a healthy lead in the CHL All-Sports Trophy.  The Cowboys are in the top spot with 61 points over 2nd place, Indian Hill's 49.5 and 3rd place, Maderia's 48.5.  Last year, after the Fall numbers were in, the Cowboys had only 58 with Indian Hill having 55.
