It's Only a Matter of Time(ing)

I have had a few questions about the emails you receive (or didn't receive) from the Round-Up.  I understand the Round-Up is set to send out email notifications of the new posts in the early afternoon every day.  That works great to rely last minute schedule changes to you before you leave the house for some event.  The problem is that I usually don't get to post new, non-urgent information until I get home from my job at the Daily Planet, which is naturally after the emails get sent out for that day.  However, for those of you who need to get your fix of Wyoming Athletics, there is a solution.  You don't have to wait for an email to come to you.  You can check out the Round-Up at any time at http://www.wyoroundup.blogspot.com/.

And remember, if you have story ideas or pictures* to send in, email them to the Round-Up at wyoroundup@gmail.com

* A note about picture submissions taken from a prior post
We are not Sports Illustrated and we aren’t expecting professional grade photos.   Keep in mind, though, that a cell phone picture from the opposite end of the field may not be clear enough to really convey the action that the picture was trying to capture.  Also, pictures do not have to be action shots during game play, pictures of fans or pre and post game shots of the team can really help to tell a story.  Pictures (JPEG format with filenames NOT using athlete’s names) should be attached (not inserted) to an email addressed to wyoroundup@gmail.com .  There is no guarantee that your pictures will be included in the Round-Up.  Also, we will try to spread the recognition around and include pictures of many athletes, so please try to include pictures of other players on the team, not just your son or daughter.  Make sure to give the photographer's name so we can give credit where credit is due.

I Hate to Keep Bringing It Up...

It was pointed out to me that I broke probably one of the more important rules of sports writing.  When posting about the Varsity Football's loss to Maderia, I never mentioned the actual score.  I could say I was in the denial stage of grief (if I don't post it maybe it isn't really true), or I could say I was saving it to post later in the week now that we are in the lull between seasons, but the truth is I'm just a goof.

So, to make things right, the final score on Friday, October 27th, in Wyoming's loss to Maderia was 7-21.

But hey, you get a bonus picture at least.

(Thanks again to Rod Apfelbeck for the pictures.  See More HERE)

Another Lame Halloween Tie-In to the Volleyball Team

While it was probably obvious to those in the know, I was clueless until an hour ago.

In an earlier post, I highlighted the Volleyball team as the District Champs.  What I didn't mention is that their next game is the OHSAA Regional Semi-Finals.  And doing the math (which I did not do), I understand that is the equivalent to the "Sweet Sixteen" in the Ohio Tournament system.

On Halloween, how can you not go to a "SWEET Sixteen" game and scream as you watch a group of Cowboys knock down a bunch of Knights?

The match will be played at Wilmington High School (300 Richardson Place, Wilmington, OH 45177) at 7:15 pm (following the McNick/Westfall match that starts at 6:00 p.m.).
Pre-Sale Tickets: $6 (on-sale in Wyoming Athletic Office all-day on Tuesday and Wednesday)
Tickets at the Gate: $8.

Directions to Wilmington HS:
I-71 North to the Route 68 exit and turn south on 68.
Proceed to the 3rd stoplight which is the intersection of Route 73/22.
Turn Right at that stoplight.
Proceed thru the 3rd stoplight on 73/22 and turn right on the first street past that stoplight, which is Richardson Place.
Proceed one block to the High School Parking Lot.

Stites to State

The Cross Country Regional Meet in Troy was Saturday, October 27th.  Neither the Boys or Girls teams qualified for the State Meet.  Even with Ian Goertzen unable to finish the race due to dehydration, the Boys team did manage to come in 5th place, ahead of League rival Indian Hill in 6th, and Ben Stites (11th place) earned his second trip to the State meet.  The Girls Team finished  in 13th place with Sammy Schwartz (52nd place) leading the way.

For this season, in the League, the Boys have 7 of the top 20 fastest runners.  Ben Stites has the second fastest time with 16:35.29 (less than 30 seconds out of 1st place).  The Girls have 3 of the top 20 fastest runners.  Sammy Schwartz sits in 6th place with 20:38.36 (less than a minute behind the 1st place time)

The State meet is Saturday, November 3rd and will be held at National Trail Raceway in Hebron.  For those of you planning to make the trip, there is important travel/parking information that can be found at the OHSAA website (specifically found at the bottom of the page found by clicking HERE)

Volleyball District Champs

On Saturday, October 27th, the Volleyball team continued crushing post-season competitors when they took down Tecumseh in all three sets 25-11, 25-19, 25-15, leaving them the District Champions.  Up next is Alter on Wednesday, October 31st, at Wilmington High School 7:30.  9 out of 10 dentists recommend going to Wilmington to cheer on our team rather than staying home passing out cavities to the kids.

Cowboys Can't Break the Mustangs

All good things must come to an end...  Too bad the end of the regular season also coincided with the end of the Cowboy's 7 game win streak as the Varsity Football team suffered a loss to Maderia on Friday, October 26th.

The Cowboys racked up 290 yard offensively.  Will Marty passed for 192 yards with Kurtz, Dailey, Vamosi, and Dawson receiving.  The 98 rushing yards came from Dailey, Marty, and Vamosi.  Our only touchdown came from Dailey's 3rd quarter 15 yard run.  Defensive highlights include Parker Chalmers nice game with 10 solo tackles, 2 assists and 1 tackle for loss, Jalen Fox with 6 solo tackles, 1 assist, 1 tackle for loss, 1 forced fumble and 3 pass breakups, and Asa Palmer's interception.

The Cowboys finish the season at 7-3 (6-1 in the CHL behind Maderia).  In the League, Will Marty was 1st in passing with 2413 yards (830 yards over 2nd place).  In Receiving, Ben Kurtz was 1st with 1022 yards, and Dominic Vamosi was 4th with 571 yards.  Terrell Dailey was 4th in Rushing with 1016 yards.  In Tackles, Casey Howell was 2nd with 102 (just 6 behind 1st place).

Thanks to Rod Apfelbeck for braving the rain.

Boys Soccer Falls to Indian Hill

From Coach Thomas,

The Wyoming Men’s Soccer Team’s season came to an end this past Monday night as they lost a heartbreaker in Sectional Finals to Indian Hill, 2-1.  Daniel Richtand recorded his 12th goal of the season.  Drew Wayman assisted on the goal.  Harrison Glover made 8 saves during the game.

The Cowboys had a great year finishing the season with a record of 13 wins, 3 loses and 3 ties.

Great Season, Team!

Late in the do-or-die game and tensions are high, Senior Todd Goodall stops to help an injured Indian Hill player stretch his cramped calf until the trainer got there.  It's unnecessary to insert some cliche quote about sportsmanship or character when this picture speaks a thousand words on both subjects.

Thanks to Rod Apfelbeck for the pictures of this game and throughout the season.

And thanks to Bridget Glover for helping me out with getting the game summary information this season.

Kicks For a Cure Totals are In

Kicks for a Cure a BIG success!

Thank you to everyone that participated and donated to this wonderful event! It was so great to see all the Wyoming Soccer players out on the field on Sunday working as a unit to raise money for the American Cancer Society.

The event raised $1137!

Special recognition goes to the seniors who planned the event. These kids have dedicated many hours of their time to Wyoming Soccer over the last four years and have helped make our soccer programs such a success. This will be another great way to remember this senior class.

There was a co-ed underclassman game.  And then the Senior boys played the Varsity Girls team.  The kids voted all week at lunch what "handicaps" the boys should have. The winners were that the boys had to play in skirts and with their hands behind their backs. it was very funny!
At half time of the senior game, people could pay $1 to shoot a PK on one of the goalkeepers - Harrison Glover or Abby Keller.
