Vote for Sportsman and Sportswoman of the Year

If you haven't already done so, please vote for the Community Press and Community Recorder Sportsman and Sportswoman of the Year.

Nominated for Sportsman of the year are AJ Burt, Nick Burns, Tony Davis, Joe Panos and some kids from Princeton who I'm sure are nice young men but can't hold a candle to AJ, Nick, Tony or Joe.

For Sporswoman of the Year Emily Fraik, Nikki McKee, Celia Oberholzer and two young ladies from Princeton are nominated.  I don't think it's asking too much for our young ladies to finish 1-2-3.

Information here.

Coverage includes track & field, boys' tennis, and girls' lacrosse.

Also, there's an article  on page A2 about Marlon Styles leaving to become principal at Mt. Healthy.

Joe Panos in All-Star game, Baseball stats update

Two baseball notes:

1 - Joe Panos will be playing in the East/West All Star Game on June 5th at Prasco Park in Mason.  There will be a double-header starting at 1 PM.  Coach Fiehrer reports that it's a beautiful place to watch a game so head on out and support Joe.

2 - I shortchanged some guys in my season-wrapping post (since corrected).  I posted stats as year end but the Madeira game was not included.  Therefore Max Kadish's league-leading batting average was not the tepid .500 I reported, but a blistering .514.  Plus the correct RBI totals for Max and Adam Crider are 33 and 30 respectively.  Links to all the stats are in the original post linked above.

Jackrabbits win, finish 2nd

The Wyoming Ultimate team (not a school sponsored team), the Jackrabbits, won its last regular season game on Sunday, 17-5 over Lakota, to finish the season 5-3, good for second place in the Cincinnati Ultimate High School League C division.

With the win, the Jackrabbits move up to the B division season-ending tournament this Sunday, which will be played at Gulley Park in Oregonia, Ohio. Wyoming will face teams from Centerville, Clark Montesorri, Covington Catholic/Notre Dame Academy, Lakota, Lebanon, Mason, Moeller/Mount Notre Dame, and St Xavier/Ursaline Academy in the season-ending tournament.

Wyoming unveiled a new zone defense Sunday that generated numerous tornovers, leading to a lot of quick scores. Sophomores Eric Reichwein and Donovan Schvart paced the Jackrabbits with six scoring throws and nine scoring catches, respectively, each setting season highs for the team in these categories.

Nine other Jackrabbits threw and/or caught a goal in a total team effort.

Baseball loses playoff heartbreaker to Roger Bacon

From today's Enquirer:
Roger Bacon 8, Wyoming 7, Division II sectional:

Host Roger Bacon erased a 7-1 deficient in the seventh inning, when senior pinch-hitter Eric Brunner recorded a two-out, three-RBI double against Wyoming in the Division II Sectional tournament, Thursday night.

"It was pretty much the way that we have played this year," said Roger Bacon head coach Tim McCoy. "We haven't made any big comebacks, but our guys are persistent and senior leadership is great."

McCoy said he inserted Brunner into the game because of his commitment during his four years with the program. McCoy didn't want his veteran to sit out what could have been his final game.

Senior shortstop Rian Bien switched positions and pitched the final three innings earning his first win of the season.
